I am the Victor is the 29th chapter of the "Shuumatsu no Valkyrie: Record of Ragnarok" manga series.

Summary[]

Anne recounts how he was not loved by anyone nor was he taught how to love anyone. He was just a poor, pitiful boy. In the past, Anne walked in to find Mary's room covered in blood. After picking up a book, Anne thought to herself that if anyone could love the boy, perhaps the Gods could. In the present, Heracles dares Jack the Ripper to come and change his color. Bringing up his gloves covered in blood, Jack agrees to, telling Heracles they should bring about the greatest finale.

Jack Heracles direct confrontation

Jack the Ripper and Heracles face off directly in close-quarters

The thunderous confrontation between justice and evil was about to have its curtain drawn. Heracles advances first and Jack follows suit, picking up part of a door to use as a shield and a piece of scaffold to use as a bat. For the first time, their fight was going to be close-quarters.

As the audience was left speechless, Heracles and Jack began clashing blows, with Jack either parrying Heracles' fist with the scaffold or defending against it with the door. Eventually, Heracles breaks through the door and Jack attempts to counter his next blow with the scaffold, only for Heracles to punch through that too. His fist lands on Jack's side wound, causing Jack to spew up blood as he is sent flying back.

Still smiling, Jack gets back up. As Heracles' tattoo continues to spread all over, Ares yells at Heracles to hurry as he's almost out of time. When Heracles rushes in and tries punching, Jack focuses on evading each of his blows. Ares wonders if Jack intends on scurrying around like a coward but Loki points out Jack has lost a lot of blood and he doubts he can go on any longer. While Jack grips tightly onto his wound, Loki questions to himself why Jack would make it a melee fight if he wanted to stall, further questioning what Jack is up to.

Jack Heracles hit each other

Jack the Ripper and Heracles hit each other

Continuing to evade, Jack tells himself "This isn't it" and keeps dodging before ending up in Heracles' blind spot. Realizing this angle and timing is perfect, Jack brings out the metal spike he kept hidden in his right sleeve and attempts to impale Heracles' head through, only for Heracles to react in time, causing the metal spike to only go through Heracles' right cheek. Using this chance, Heracles backhands Jack away. As Ares cheers, Loki realizes that Jack took off his cloak earlier to hide the metal spike in his sleeve and planned to use it when the time was right before calling it a shame that it didn't work. With Jack seemingly knocked out on the ground, Humanity begins to believe they've lost and someone says this should've been expected since Jack is nothing but a murderer.

Jack under the moonlight

Jack the Ripper sings "London Bridge is Falling Down" while looking up

However, Anne dares them to go against the Gods and says that, though that boy is alone, he is fighting nonetheless. The guy accuses her of being drunk and she yells at him for being a coward, only for the two to be told to be quiet as they hear something. Jack is revealed to be mumbling "London Bridge is Falling Down" before shedding his cloak and getting up, using the metal spike to assist him. Humanity reacts with awe and shock, and some guess he's on his last legs. Slowly walking towards Heracles, Jack holds up the metal spike, much to the surprise of the Gods, since it looked like Jack was losing consciousness. Smiling, Heracles calls Jack strong.

As Jack continues singing "London Bridge is Falling Down", he imagines a past where he runs through the streets, happy, and where his mother and father are loving parents to him. Now in front of Heracles, Jack raises the metal spike. Likewise, Heracles raises his fist and the two attack. Heracles' attack reaches first, knocking Jack's head. This causes Jack to drop the metal spike and begin falling down. As Ares says it's over, Heracles tells Jack he's done well.

Dear God

Jack the Ripper pierces Heracles' flesh with his final move: Dear God

Noting he's suffered enough, Heracles tells him to rest. However, as Heracles' fist is raised, Jack suddenly regains his balance and pierces his hands through Heracles' chest. As everyone stares at the sight, wide-eyed, Jack reveals this technique is called Dear God, a move he dedicates to Heracles. Ares questions how a Human could pierce divine flesh but Heracles figured out that Jack wasn't covering his injury – he was actually covering his gloves with a lot of blood. Enough blood to turn into a Divine Weapon. Heracles admits he was something else, up until the end and asks if his color has changed. Looking up at him, Jack claims it is his loss for the color hasn't changed. Raising his hand, Heracles tells Jack to never forget before hugging him, reminding Jack that he will always love Humans.

Sadly smiling, Jack comments on how stubborn he is. Sighing, Loki notes that in the end, Heracles still had enough strength to embrace Jack.

Jack killing Hercules

Jack the Ripper kills Heracles and wins the Fourth Round

As Heracles begins to disappear, he calls it a good fight and apologises to Brunhilde for yelling at her earlier. He decides to leave the rest to her as though they may be foolish, he still wants the Humans to be saved before disappearing. As Ares and Göll cry, as Brunhilde, Zeus and Hermes stay silent and as Loki angrily bites his thumb, Jack looks at his gloves, wondering what kind of color he is right now. With a time of 26 minutes and 57 seconds, Round 4 of Ragnarok goes to Jack the Ripper, making it Humanity's second win and thus, tying the score with the Gods.
